Description

Prolutex is an injectable form of the hormone progesterone, used as part of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) programs, such as IVF, to help women achieve and maintain pregnancy. It is an alternative to vaginal progesterone preparations.

Key Information
Active Ingredient: Progesterone, a hormone that helps prepare the womb for a fertilized egg.
Indication: It is used for luteal phase support in women undergoing fertility treatments.
Administration: It can be given subcutaneously (under the skin) or intramuscularly (into a muscle) under medical supervision. Subcutaneous injections can often be self-administered, while intramuscular injections must be given by a healthcare professional.
Dosage & Duration: The typical dose is 25 mg daily, usually starting from egg retrieval and continuing until 12 weeks of confirmed pregnancy.
Key Advantage: As a water-based solution, Prolutex may cause less injection site discomfort compared to some oil-based progesterone injections.
Common Side Effects
Common side effects are often minor and related to the injection site, including pain, redness, itching, irritation, or swelling. Other potential side effects include headache, digestive issues (bloating, pain, constipation, nausea, vomiting), breast tenderness, and fatigue.
Important Considerations
Medical Supervision: Prolutex should only be used under the care of a doctor specializing in fertility treatment.
Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take it when remembered and continue as usual, but do not double the dose. Inform your doctor about the missed dose.
Alcohol & Driving: Progesterone may cause drowsiness, so caution is needed when driving or using machinery. Alcohol should be avoided as it can worsen these effects.
Discontinuation: Do not stop using Prolutex without consulting your doctor, as this could lead to increased anxiety or mood swings.
